Iceland-based producer Janus Rasmussen is set to release a three-track EP ‘Slóð’, released on Ki Records.

Janus Rasmussen has been on a highly personal journey since going solo in 2019, and Slóð reflects just how far he’s come on that route more than any other release. The Faroese producer has withdrawn into his own inner world after making a name for himself in acclaimed collaborative endeavors, such as the electronic pop quartet Bloodgroup and his output as one half of the duo KIASMOS, alongside Ólafur Arnalds. He has since experimented with new sounds and styles in his debut solo album Vín and EP Bló. Slóð, which means “road” in Faroese, lays out a definite course for the future in contrast to the musician’s earlier recordings, which explored their newly discovered liberties as a solo artist.

The EP’s title track, ‘Ærð,’ is a masterclass in smooth transitions, flitting between melodic piano keys, powerful synthesizers, and various shakers and percussions with ease. The creation of such a seamless journey, however, was not without difficulty for Rasmussen, who envisioned himself working with the Juno 60 and Jupiter 4 synthesizers, two vintage instruments noted for their unpredictable performance and warm, nostalgic feel. Rasmussen’s creativity in combining a variety of experiences into a musical journey unlike any other is demonstrated by the procedure, which called both patience and a talent for improvisation.
